Decoded Messages

This page indexes message data for browsing. You might also be interested in story view if you want a compact presentation of the major happenings and plot points.

There are too many messages to reasonably list on one page, so they are indexed by category.

  • QX Messages - interactions with a voice message system.
  • AS27 Messages - this phone number gives long sequences of numbers spoken by TTS voices, which can typically be interpreted directly as ASCII codes for letters; the messages present as broadcasted directives. This is a relatively new category for us.
  • 16xxx Messages - 16xxx codes give the appearance of functioning like voicemail boxes for people picking up dead drops and the like, usually terse exchanges that may refer to 18xxx codes for more detail.
  • 18xxx Messages - 18xxx codes periodically give long sequences of numbers spoken by TTS voices, which are XORed against a one-time-pad to obtain longer, email-like messages discussing things like battery recharging. Most of the "plot" we have comes from 18xxx messages.
  • 50565732 (Robbybox) Messages - this agent code used to give strange messages suggesting willingness to disclose secrets
  • ABISM Messages - some strange kind of modem we've heard and also seen referenced many times; decoding it is something of a technical challenge and it seems to be very important.
  • SSTV Messages - SSTV is a standard way to transmit images over radio; we often see SSTV images of drop locations when there are drops.
  • 2+ Messages - the extended family of which 22# is a part, e.g. also includes 222, 2222, the honeypot message, and the Field Agent Guide
  • 22# Changes - this one special agent code says confusing things in TTS voices which sometimes sound like warnings, and sometimes like nonsense or inscrutable messages; the message has gradually changed for a long time, here is a visualization of how and when. It still isn't clear what this is really about.
  • SHIP Messages These are messages which just appear to give coordinates of objects in oceans, e.g. near the Arctic.
  • SHIP Map - a geographic interpretation of SHIP messages.
  • Other kinds of messages - stuff that doesn't fit in the above categories: Not AS27, Not ABISM, Not SSTV, Not 16xxx, Not 18xxx, Not 50565732, Not SHIP, Not 22. Some of our most interesting and often unsolved stuff, and other things like directories of related phone numbers.
